Elkevate Your Life
Protecting Your Peace At Home And Beyond
A woodpecker moved in under the neighbor’s sill and turned our nights into chaos—and that’s where the real story starts. Between disrupted sleep, apartment runaround, and a stubborn respiratory bug that triggered asthma, we found a sharper voice and a clearer path to protecting our peace. No drama, no yelling—just steady self-advocacy anchored in rights, boundaries, and calm follow-through.
We walk through the exact pivot from “sorry to bother you” to “please address this per the lease,” and why that small language shift changes outcomes at home, with management, and in healthcare. You’ll hear how we documented noise, referenced quiet enjoyment, and pushed for practical fixes without losing compassion for a protected species. On the wellness side, we unpack navigating a lingering cough, when to return to the doctor, what symptom tracking reveals, and how basic habits—hydration, vitamins, clean meals, and rest—create a buffer when bugs sweep through schools and families.
We also open space for Veterans Day reflections with real questions designed to invite stories: why you joined, what changed you, and how civilian life feels now. Along the way, we share gratitude for friends, creators, and listeners whose encouragement keeps the wheels turning, plus shoutouts to small businesses and a thoughtful book rec that reminds us love is a verb. If you’re balancing fatigue with resolve, this conversation offers practical steps, language you can borrow, and the reminder that consistency compounds into real change.
If this resonates, tap follow, leave a quick review, and share it with someone who’s ready to speak up for their peace. Your comment helps more listeners find the show—and your story might help someone take their next brave step.

Chickkawa. What's up, party people? Thank you for tuning in to another episode of LKV H your Life. I am your hostess with the most des in the letter L and key as in the key to your heart. Forgive the background noise. I realized I needed to switch microphones and be able to multitask because my glasses are foggy. So thank you for tuning in on Wisdom Wellness Wednesday, November 12th. Sorry, Mindful Monday got cut short by Woody the Woodpecker. To those of you who missed the episode, let me give you a recap. I live in an apartment and oh gosh. Well, it's been one thing after another. The apartments are very nice, by the way. They are considered luxury apartments. But I would say within the last year, it has been kind of one thing after another. First, with construction in the apartment next door, which brought in a critter that was living in on the other side of my vanity, and basically had made a home in the walls and was keeping me up at night. Well, then that finally got resolved. And then Woody the Woodpecker decided to create a home right outside our bedroom window. And it's in a very unique place in that it's created a home outside my bedroom window, but underneath my neighbor's window. So their window sill comes out above mine. So while it was above my window, it was very difficult for me to reach to hang anything, put anything. Anyway, this guy decided, or girl decided, to make a home there. And initially it didn't really bother me. I know that they are a um a protected species, and I have a love for animals, creatures, reptiles, you name it. So I didn't want to do anything, but then it became a nuisance in the fact that uh it built a home, but then it was only there while I was gone at work. Well, then it decided to come back and begin its nesting phase where it was coming every night, all hours of the night, and bringing in its food and clothing and who God knows what. All I know is from the time I went to bed, which isn't you know an early hour, we're talking 10, sometimes 11 o'clock at night, uh, up until the wee hours of the morning. This thing was just bringing in acorns and its friends and having a house party. I don't know what the heck was going on in there, but when I had finally had enough and wasn't getting sleep for weeks on end, I decided to bring it to the apartment's attention. Well, initially, when I brought it to their attention, they're like, Yeah, not a lot we can do. Protected species, yada yada. And I was like, okay, I get all that, but uh pretty sure in my lease clause, there's something about I am entitled to peace and quiet in my home, if you know what I'm saying. So it became a battle between me and the apartments. And for those of you that know me personally or otherwise, this has been my home for a good length of time. So I have become acquainted with the staff, my neighbors, etc., and have always been a good tenant, abide by the rules, help enforce the rules, etc. Needless to say, the lease is up in February, and it might be time because this past year has been well, it's been a bear between my autoimmune disease and things going on inside and outside the home. Yeah, it might be time for a change, guys. Anyway, when we last talked, I was saying thank you to the veterans and happy Veterans Day. I have several friends, family, etc., that were in the service, have served in the service, still in the military, and my hat's off to you because I've witnessed a lot that they have endured during their time, uh, mostly Navy, but I've had friends in the Army and Marines, etc. So um I hope everyone's Veterans Day was well. Don't know if you had the privilege of having the day off, but because I work for a school, I did. I had the Monday and Tuesday off. And uh yeah, back to work today. Wisdom Wellness Wednesday. So, what is the wisdom I'm going to share with you today? Hmm. You know, I came on not knowing what the wisdom I was going to share with you today. But then I started thinking about it, realizing I have had to advocate for myself in so many ways with the autoimmune disease that happened to me nearly a year ago. And I had to become an advocate with my doctors, with my job, with the school, and now with the stuff that's happening with the apartments. So I guess my wisdom wellness Wednesday tip for today would be don't allow people to dictate the terms of your life, your peace, your right to peace, happiness, well-being, mental health, physical, mental, spiritual health. Because quite honestly, within this past year, with all of these ongoing things, it has taught me that patience is a virtue, and I have been told that I am virtuous. Thank you very much to all those who have said that, but also with that comes determination, tenacity, and just having the wherewithal to not be afraid and intimidated by others and stand your ground if there is something that you firmly believe in that's important to you. Uh read about it, research it, make sure that you know and understand your rights and your you know what is within your rights and what seems justifiable, you know, to follow through on those actions. For example, this stuff with the woodpecker. Initially I found myself going in there and saying, oh, sorry, sorry to be a bother, sorry to complain. But why? Why am I sorry when I pay to live here and it clearly says in my lease clause that I am entitled to peace and quiet in my home. And that's well within my rights. So if there is a noise issue that can be prevented, whether it's noisy neighbors or a woodpecker, you know, um, I'm within my rights to go in there and say, hey, I need something to be done about this. So initially, after going in there and tiptoeing around it, I was like, screw this. I pay to live here, I pay for certain things, and either you're gonna handle it or I'm gonna handle it. And quite frankly, I noticed that I when I went in there and I was more firm that action was taken. So, yeah, I guess that would be my advice. On that note, I didn't see any sort of comments or responses from anyone regarding Veterans Day, and I realized my podcast didn't show up on my YouTube channel, LK Bait Your Life Podcast. So I don't know if it was too short. I I don't really know what the issue was, to be quite frank with you. Um so I'm hoping with this episode being a longer episode that it will populate on my YouTube channel. Uh so for those of you who have listened, it was still available on Spotify, Apple, BuzzSprout, Amazon Music, all the other platforms that I can be found on. Um yeah. So I do hope that you will have an opportunity to like it, listen to it, comment, share your feedback, whether you are in the military, were in the military. Some of the questions, again, to recap were why did you decide to join the service? Was it because you know you grew up um in a military family? Was it because your family encouraged you to do so? Uh was it a thing like, hey, you get out of high school and either you have a job or go to the military, or I don't know, but I would love to hear your response and yeah, your stories. What was your experience? What inspired you to go in? How did it change you or better you? Um, what is your civilian life like now? So those were the kinds of questions that I was asking. Uh moving right along, as I said, I hope that everybody enjoyed their Veterans Day and hopefully you had it as a day off or a holiday. Um, wondering if anybody had any Veterans Day traditions. Also, I want to give a shout out to my girl Lisa Roberts Corbello. So sorry I was unable to make your 60th birthday party. I cannot begin to tell you what a letdown that was to me. For those of you that know, I've been in and out of some health issues and I had a really bad upper respiratory infection, which God help you keep up on your vitamins and your clean eating, drinking, all that, which I do, just so you know. I take it's like 15 vitamins and minerals per day. I eat clean, a high protein, low carb diet. Um, I work out every other day. And yeah, I still managed to get it. It's something that was going around the school. And then honestly, after doing my homework initially, my doctor was like, oh, it's a virus. I can't give you anything. But, you know, if you have the cough worse next week, come back and I'll give you antibiotics. Well, sure enough, I tried to go back to work the following week and I wasn't better. It triggered my asthma. So I had to go back to the doctor's, get an inhaler, get antibiotics, yada yada. And then I did some homework and some reading, looking up, hey, what's going around right now? And sure enough, everything that was going around was what I had. Is it was like either you got a strain of one of the COVID vaccines or the one of the COVID strains, or you had the flu or RSV. Well, she told me upper respiratory infection. Is that in line with RSV? I mean, it was in line with all the symptoms. So I'm happy to announce that I am better now, although I do still have the chest cough. So bundle up, take your vitamins, stay healthy, drink your water, get good sleep. Do all the things you can to keep yourself healthy and strong. Um yeah, that was no fun. And literally all my peers have had it. So hopefully that's the end of it. Now my hubby is seems to be battling something. He doesn't know if it's exhaustion from refereeing high school football or weather change. I who knows. Uh but yeah, so that's really it. I didn't really have a specific topic I wanted to discuss this evening. I do want to make sure I give a shout out to all my loyal subscribers. Thank you, Lisa Roberts Corbello. Happy birthday again. So sorry I missed it. Hopefully, you heard my song message and read my message, and I saw the pictures in the post. It looked like a fabulous birthday. I'm sorry to miss such a milestone birthday.
